  • Nan’s Dressing

Nan’s dressing, straight from her handwritten card. Savory, butter and onion, the way a Newfoundland dressing should be. Make it the day before so the flavours come together overnight.

    Covered300°F

    Ingredients

    • 4 to 5 cups bread, blended into crumbs
    • ¾ cup butter, melted (a little more than ½ cup)
    • 1 onion, finely chopped
    • 2 to 3 Tbsp savory, and when you think there’s enough, add more
    • ½ cup sugar
    • A sprinkle of poultry seasoning

    Method

    1. Blend the bread into crumbs in a blender.
    2. Mix the bread crumbs, butter, onion, savory, sugar and poultry seasoning together well.
    3. Cover with plastic wrap and leave it overnight in the fridge.
    4. Bake covered at 300°F for about 30 minutes, the way Nan said.
