Nova Scotia’s capital city

Living in Halifax

The waterfront, universities, hospitals and walkable neighbourhoods on the peninsula.

The Halifax peninsula is the heart of HRM. Downtown and the waterfront, the QEII Health Sciences Centre, the IWK Health Centre, and Dalhousie and Saint Mary’s universities are all within a few kilometres of each other.

Each neighbourhood has its own feel. The South End has tree-lined streets, heritage homes and Point Pleasant Park. The North End and the Hydrostone mix century homes, newer builds and independent shops. The West End is quieter and close to the Halifax Shopping Centre, and downtown is mostly condos and apartments.

Why people choose Halifax

  • Walk or bus to work, school and the hospitals
  • Parks, the Public Gardens and the waterfront boardwalk
  • Condos, character homes and family homes in one city
